(Prof. Roger McWilliams, Dr. Heinrich Boehmer, Prof. William Heidbrink, Mr.
Virgil Laul, Prof. Greg Severn)
|
Roger
McWilliams,
Professor of Physics and Astronomy, earned his Ph.D. in 1980 from Princeton
University and the B.A. from the University of California, Irvine in 1975. Prior
to finishing his Ph.D. he joined the faculty at UCI. His teaching has been
recognized with multiple awards for Outstanding Contributions to
Undergraduate Education at UCI. He was the inaugural winner of the UC
systemwide Presidential Faculty Award for Excellence in Undergraduate
Research recognizing his leadership in creating and overseeing undergraduate
research opportunities. He is founding director of the Campuswide Honors
Program and founder of the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program. His
research areas are experimental studies of wave propagation and particle
transport in plasmas and laser development. |

|
|
Dr. Heinrich Boehmer, plasma physicist with decades of experience in industrial high tech plasma applications and university settings. |
|
|
Dr. Eusebio
Garate, plasma
physicist with expertise in pulsed power applications. |
|
Prof. William Heidbrink, with major research interests in fusion plasma physics and particularly in fast ion transport. |
|
|
Greg
Severn, Associate
Professor of Physics at the University of San Diego, is a regular
collaborator at UC Irvine. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of
Wisconsin in 1987. His experimental plasma physics research focuses upon ion
transport, chaos, and laser development. He is also interested in innovations
in physics education and is currently working on new experiments for upper
division thermodynamics. |

Virgil
Laul, Senior Development Engineer, has had a long career at UC Irvine and in
aerospace industry. He is in charge of electrical and mechanical engineering
needs of the lab. |
